This article summarizes the key technical requirements and analytical methods outlined in ASTM D6367 – 21, the standard specification for AMS (α-Methylstyrene). This specification is under the jurisdiction of Committee D16 on Aromatic, Industrial, Specialty and Related Chemicals.
ASTM D6367 – 21 provides the standardized requirements for α-Methylstyrene (AMS) intended for commercial use. The specification establishes purity criteria and the allowable limits for critical impurities. According to Section 1.1, this specification covers AMS (α-Methylstyrene). All values stated in SI units (Section 1.3) are to be regarded as standard, with no other units of measurement included in this standard.
Section 1.2 defines the critical rounding procedure for conformance: an observed or calculated value shall be rounded “to the nearest unit” in the last right-hand digit used in expressing the specification limit, in accordance with Practice E29. Users are also directed (Section 1.4) to consult current OSHA regulations, supplier Safety Data Sheets, and local regulations for all materials used in this specification. This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established by the WTO TBT Committee (Section 1.5).
Section 3.1 of the standard mandates that AMS shall conform to the requirements shown in Table 1. These limits are established to ensure the material meets industrial quality standards for polymerization and
