IEC 60072-3: Dimensions and Output Series for Rotating Electrical Machines

Why Motors from Different Brands Interchange Perfectly: The IEC 60072-3 Mounting Code

IEC 60072-3 defines the standard mounting dimension series for rotating electrical machines. This is why a Siemens 30 kW motor and a TECO 30 kW motor drop into the same mounting footprint without modification.

The reference parameter: shaft center height H. H is the distance from the shaft centerline to the mounting base — the master dimension from which all other mounting dimensions derive. Standard sequence: H=56/63/71/80/90/100/112/132/160/180/200/225/250/280/315/355/400 mm. Each H corresponds to specific foot-mounting hole spacing (A×B) and flange bolt-circle diameter (M).

A common pitfall: An H=132 motor typically corresponds to 5.5–7.5 kW (4-pole), but the power range for the same H can span 4–11 kW across different manufacturers and efficiency classes. Never select H by power rating alone — consult the specific mounting dimension table.
