IEC 60064: Tungsten Filament Lamps for Domestic Use — Performance Requirements

The Incandescent Standard Legacy: How IEC 60064 Test Methods Shaped LED Performance Standards

IEC 60064 specifies household tungsten filament lamp performance requirements. While incandescent lamps are being rapidly replaced by LEDs, this standard test methodology remains the reference framework for LED luminaire performance evaluation.

Three legacies: (1) The 1,000-hour rated-life benchmark — the LED LM-80 test (6,000 hours) methodologically inherits IEC 60064 accelerated-aging approach. (2) The lumen maintenance concept — incandescent lamps maintain >85% lumen output at 70% rated life; LED L70/L80 metrics are a direct conceptual inheritance. (3) The energy-efficiency comparison baseline for national incandescent bans — “LED saves 85% energy vs. equivalent incandescent” references IEC 60064-defined 100 W incandescent benchmark parameters.

TN Lab — Old standard test methodologies are often inherited and improved by new standards, not discarded wholesale.
