Why Nuclear Control Rooms Cannot Use Standard BNC: Radiation Degradation
IEC 60313:2002 specifies coaxial connectors for nuclear instrumentation. Nuclear detectors produce mV-level signals requiring low-noise, high-insulation (>10¹⁴Ω), radiation-hardened connectors. Standard BNC PE insulation degrades at only 10⁴ Gy.
