IEC 60311: Household Electric Irons — Soleplate Temperature Control and Overheat Safety

Soleplate at 250°C — How Dual Overheat Protection Prevents Fire

IEC 60311:2009 specifies household electric iron performance measurement. Soleplate temperature must be precisely controlled: synthetics ~110°C, silk ~150°C, cotton ~200°C, linen ~230°C.

FabricTempSteam
Synthetics~110°CLow
Silk/Wool~150°CMedium
Cotton~200°CHigh
Linen~230°CMax

Dual overheat protection: (1) Adjustable thermostat (bimetallic, auto-reset). (2) Thermal fuse (non-resettable) — if thermostat contacts weld, the fuse permanently disconnects at 260–280°C. The last line of fire defense.

TNLab — An iron dual overheat protection is the foundation of decades of safety.
