This guide provides information to assist the specifier in developing specifications for the application and protection of fully adhered vulcanized rubber sheets, including EPDM, butyl, and neoprene, on concrete substrates. The structure and deck must be mechanically sound, able to accept the weight of the sheet and overburden, and meet local building codes. The deck should be sloped to drain. Values in SI or inch-pound units are standard independently.
Referenced ASTM standards include D1079 (Terminology), D5295 (Concrete Surface Preparation), D5898 (Details for Sheet Waterproofing), and D5957 (Flood Testing).
Deliver materials in producer or system supplier’s unopened containers with weather-resistant markings. Store sheet materials horizontally, elevated off the ground under protective coverings to prevent contamination. Adhesives and sealants must be stored at 16–27°C [60–80°F] for three days before use in tightly closed containers. Splicing cleaners and primers require storage in original closed containers to avoid fire hazards.
| 🟦 Material | 📏 Storage Condition | 🎯 Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet Materials | Horizontal, elevated | Under protective coverings |
| Adhesives & Sealants | 16–27°C (60–80°F) | 3 days before use |
| Splicing Cleaners & Primers | Original closed containers | No fire hazard storage |
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) must be available for products that require them. Adhesives, cleaning agents, and other solvent-bearing materials may be flammable. Safety includes no smoking when using flammable materials and avoiding open flames.
It covers the application of fully adhered vulcanized rubber sheets (EPDM, butyl, neoprene) for waterproofing on concrete substrates.
At 16–27°C (60–80°F) for three days in tightly closed original containers.
No smoking, avoid open flames, and ensure MSDS are available for all applicable products.
