D5260-22 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

🧪 Scope and Application

ASTM D5260-22 is a standard classification specifically designed to categorize the chemical resistance of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) homopolymer and copolymer compounds, as well as chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC) compounds. The evaluation is conducted through the simple immersion testing of unstressed specimens, as comprehensively detailed in the referenced test method.

This classification serves as a foundational reference for material specifications including D1784 (Rigid PVC/CPVC Compounds), D4216 (Building Products Compounds), D4396 (Nonpressure Pipe Compounds), and D4551 (Flexible Concealed Water-Containment Membrane). All stated values conform to SI units.

💡 Note: As stated in Note 1 of the standard, there are currently no ISO standards covering the subject matter of this classification. Users requiring equivalent international standards must note this absence.

⚙️ Testing Methodology and Key References

The standard derives its technical basis from the comprehensive test practices established in ASTM D543. The following table outlines the critical document relationships and scope parameters defined within D5260-22.
