D5096-24 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

🎯 Scope and Methodology

ASTM D5096‑24 specifies the test method for determining the starting threshold, distance constant, transfer function, and off‑axis response of cup and propeller anemometers through direct measurement in a wind tunnel. The standard requires SI units as the standard measurement unit.

⚠️ Important: While this test method reliably measures anemometer performance in wind tunnel airflow, transference of these values to atmospheric flow must be done with an understanding that differences exist between the two flow systems (Section 1.2).

📐 Key Terminology and Performance Parameters

The standard defines specific terminology central to characterizing anemometer response. The table below summarizes the fundamental parameters.
