ASTM D4726-24 specifies requirements for rigid PVC exterior-profile extrusions for assembled windows and doors. It covers material properties such as dimensional stability (per Test Method D1042), weatherability (per Practice D1435 or artificial weathering per G147), and extrusion quality. The standard also provides methods for testing and identifying compliant extrusions. Use of rigid PVC recycled plastic shall be in accordance with Section 6. Values stated in inch-pound units are standard, and there is no known ISO equivalent.
Note: For interior-profile extrusions, refer to Specification D3678.
| 📏 Standard | 🎯 Purpose | ⚡ Application |
|---|---|---|
| D4226 | Impact Resistance | Testing PVC building products |
| D1042 | Linear Dimensional Changes | Heat and moisture exposure |
| D2244 | Color Difference Calculation | Color-hold evaluation |
Testing includes dimensional stability, weatherability, and impact resistance. Conditioning of specimens must follow Practice D618. The standard outlines specific test methods in Section 11, including procedures for measuring color-hold using Practice E805 and D2244. Color-hold guidelines are provided for white, grey, beige, light brown, and dark brown as per Appendix X1. Additional colors may be added as guidelines develop.
💡 Tip: Always consult manufacturer’s guidelines for application and installation of PVC profiles for optimal performance.
The color-hold guidelines assist in product development and quality performance. The following colors are included with reference figures for tolerance evaluation. Weatherability testing ensures long-term performance under outdoor conditions.
| 🎨 Color | 📏 Reference | 📐 Application |
|---|---|---|
| White | Fig. X1.1 | Product development |
| Grey | Fig. X1.2 | Quality performance |
| Beige | Fig. X1.3 | Quality performance |
| Light Brown | Fig. X1.4 | Quality performance |
| Dark Brown | Fig. X1.5 | Quality performance |
⚠️ Safety: The standard does not address all safety concerns. Users must establish appropriate health and environmental practices before use.
