D4498-07 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

📐 Specimen Geometry and Tolerances

This test method, fully designated as ASTM D4498-07 (Reapproved 2015), relies on a meticulously prepared lap-joint specimen to determine the heat-fail temperature. The hot melt adhesive film must be cast to a precise and uniform thickness of 76 ± 25 µm (3 ± 1 mil). Following the cooling process, the films undergo rigorous visual inspection; pursuant to Section 6.2, any film containing voids, bubbles, or other imperfections must be immediately rejected to preserve the integrity of the test results.
