ASTM D4371/D4371M standardizes the determination of washability characteristics for both coarse-coal and fine-coal fractions. As defined in Section 1.1, each size fraction tested must have an upper and lower size limit without overlapping adjacent fractions, following the classification principles of Test Method D4749. The standard provides a dual-unit designation where SI and inch-pound values are regarded independently (Section 1.3). Table 1 lists the typical size fractions analyzed.
