📐 Scope and Classification of Test Methods
ASTM D3809-01 (Reapproved 2006) provides standardized test methods for evaluating synthetic dielectric fluids used in capacitors. Under the jurisdiction of Committee D27, these methods cover physical, chemical, and electrical properties. They are designed for specification acceptance, factory control, and research. Many of the methods originally derived for petroleum oils have been validated for synthetic fluids. Note that applicability to future fluids has not been determined (Section 1.1).
💡 Tip: For methods relating to Polybutene fluids, refer to Specification D2296. For Silicone fluids, consult Test Methods D2225.
