Standard ASTM D3204-93 covers preformed pressure-relief joint fillers manufactured from cellular plastic materials. These fillers are designed for use in full-depth concrete pavement joints, approximating 4.0 inches (102 mm) in width, to effectively relieve stress and avoid potential distress in adjacent structures or pavement sections. The standard specifies two distinct material types with unique manufacturing and performance characteristics.

🧪 Material Types and Manufacturing Requirements

Type I fillers are made from foamed polyethylene and must feature a closed cell, homogeneous cross-section entirely free of laminations. Type II fillers are manufactured from foamed polyurethane and require a semi-open cell structure that is also homogeneous and lamination-free. Both types must be preformed and exhibit sufficient structural integrity for handling.
