D2921-98 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

📖 Scope and Significance

This test method, designated D2921 –98 (Reapproved 2024), covers simple qualitative field or laboratory tests for determining water repellency or the presence of chlorinated phenol preservative chemicals in wood products specified to be water repellent preservative treated. The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.

Although chlorinated phenol-treated wood has become less common due to environmental concerns, water repellent-treated wood remains a common construction specification. This test method provides a practical means to verify the presence of a significant level of water repellent protection required by standards such as Fed. Spec. TT-W-572 and NBS Standard 262-63.
