This test method, ASTM D2882-00, involves circulating 18.9 ± 0.5 L of hydraulic fluid through a Vickers vane pump for 100 hours at 1200 ± 60 r/min and 13.8 ± 0.3 MPa (2000 ± 40 psi). Fluid temperature at the pump inlet is maintained at 66 ± 3°C for water-containing fluids and petroleum/synthetic fluids of ISO Grade 46 or lighter, or at 80 ± 3°C for other fluids.
| 🟦 Parameter | 📏 Specification |
|---|---|
| Test Duration | 100 hours |
| Pump Speed | 1200 ± 60 r/min |
| Pump Outlet Pressure | 13.8 ± 0.3 MPa (2000 ± 40 psi) |
| Fluid Volume | 18.9 ± 0.5 L (5 ± 0.13 gal) |
| Fluid Temperature for Water-Containing Fluids | 66 ± 3°C (150 ± 5°F) |
| Fluid Temperature for Other Fluids | 80 ± 3°C (175 ± 5°F) |
The wear characteristics are indicated by the total mass loss from the cam ring and the twelve vanes. Additionally, fluid cleanliness levels before and after the test, and initial and final flow rates are reported. Fluid contamination is coded according to ISO 4406.
The test system consists of a 1200 rpm AC motor (minimum 11 kW), a rigid test stand, and a rotary vane pump. The pump must be a Vickers 104C or 105C cartridge type, rated at 28.4 L/min at 1200 r/min with ISO Grade 32 fluid. No modifications to the pump housing are permitted. The total test fluid quantity required is 26.5 L (7 gal).
| 🟦 Component | 📐 Specification |
|---|---|
| Motor Power | 11 kW (15 hp) minimum |
| Pump Type | Vickers 104C or 105C |
| Rated Flow | 28.4 L/min (7.5 gal/min) at 1200 r/min |
| Maximum Rated Pressure | 6.9 MPa (1000 psi) – operated at 13.8 MPa (2000 psi) for test |
This test method is used to indicate the wear characteristics of petroleum and non-petroleum hydraulic fluids operating in a constant volume vane pump.
Wear is determined by the total mass loss of the cam ring and twelve vanes after the 100-hour test.
The pump operates at 1200 r/min and 13.8 MPa, with fluid temperature at 66°C or 80°C depending on fluid type.
A protective shield is recommended around the pump due to operation at twice its rated pressure.
