ASTM D2517 – 18, officially reapproved in 2023, defines the standard specification for reinforced epoxy resin gas pressure pipe and fittings. This specification is tailored for the demanding environment of underground gas distribution, covering materials, dimensions, tolerances, and key performance characteristics.
Applications: The standard covers pipe intended for direct burial and insertion applications in gas mains and services. It is designed for the distribution of natural gas, petroleum fuel vapors (propane–air and propane–butane mixtures), as well as manufactured and mixed gases where resistance to gas permeation, toughness, and corrosion resistance are required.
Key Properties: The specification focuses on hydrostatic-burst strength, chemical resistance, and longitudinal tensile properties. SI units are regarded as the standard for this specification. Design considerations are provided in Appendix X1, and a recommended inplant quality control program is detailed in Appendix X2. Per Note 1, there is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.
