D2512-17 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

🛠️ Equipment and Specimen Preparation

This test method utilizes the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA)-type impact tester to determine the compatibility of materials with liquid oxygen (LOX). The core apparatus consists of a guided 20.0 lb (9.07 kg) plummet, a striker pin, a polished stainless steel specimen cup, and a stainless steel anvil. Dimensional precision and metallurgical cleanliness are paramount to ensure repeatable outcomes.

The specimen cavity must be rigorously cleaned using oxygen-compatible solvents such as MIL-C-81302D (trichlorotrifluoroethane) or MIL-T-27602B (trichloroethylene) to eliminate any hydrocarbon residues which could cause false positive reactions. The LOX must conform to MIL-PRF-25508F to ensure purity. Reagent water conforming to Specification D1193 is used for intermediate rins
