D2164-83 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

ASTM D2164-83 defines methods for testing structural insulating roof deck, a laminated composite serving as finished ceiling, structural deck, and thermal insulation. Tests measure deflection and strength with the finished (ceiling) face in tension. Results are reported in inch-pound units, which are the standard. Physical properties are addressed via referenced ASTM standards.

🔬 Scope of Testing and Specimen Configuration

Section 1 identifies the core structural properties. All tests are conducted on beam specimens with the factory-finished ceiling face in tension, matching exposed beam construction stress orientation.

🟦 Test Property📏 Sections

Concentrated Load13 – 16
Sustained Uniform Load (Sag)18 – 20
Impact Load21 – 24
Resistance to Cyclic Exposure25 – 29

⚙️ Structural Testing Procedures and Mechanical Loads

The Equivalent Uniform Load test (8-12) measures deflection under distributed loads. Concentrated Load (13-16) assesses resistance to point loads. Sustained Uniform Load (18-20) evaluates long-term sag. <
