D1593-22 – Standard Test Method Technical Guide

ASTM D1593-22 covers nonrigid, unsupported vinyl chloride plastic film and sheeting where the resin composition contains at least 90% vinyl chloride. Film is defined as material 0.075 to 0.25 mm (3 to 10 mils) in thickness, while sheeting exceeds 0.25 mm. This standard applies to transparent, translucent, and opaque materials that may be plain, printed, or embossed.

📐 Scope, Classification, and Test Procedures

Specimens must be conditioned in accordance with ASTM D618 prior to testing. The remaining 10% of the resin composition may include copolymerized monomers or mechanically blended resins. Stabilizers and plasticizers must be incorporated to meet the specified performance requirements.

💡 Copolymer Composition: The portion of the resin not composed of vinyl chloride can include one or more monomers copolymerized with vinyl chloride or other resins mechanically blended with poly(vinyl chloride).
