CRT Outline Drawings — A Legacy Standard Still Relevant in Electron Beam Instruments

IEC 60139:2000 specifies outline drawing preparation for oscilloscope and picture tubes. CRTs have been replaced by LCD/OLED in displays, but this standard remains applicable in electron beam instruments — SEM, TEM, X-ray tubes.

Why still relevant? Because electron beam tube core structure — electron gun, deflection system, phosphor screen — is essentially identical to CRTs. The difference is the application: semiconductor inspection, materials analysis, medical imaging. An SEM electron column requires precise dimensional drawings for electron-optical alignment — exactly what IEC 60139 standardized.

TN Lab — Consumer electronics retired the CRT, but electron beam tubes continue playing an irreplaceable role in scientific instruments.
