🛢️ BS EN ISO 14692 is the British Standard series adopted by BSI from the European standard EN ISO 14692, specifying the design, manufacture and use of glass-reinforced plastics (GRP) piping in the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. Prepared by ISO/TC 67 (Materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries) together with the relevant CEN technical committees and entrusted in the UK to Technical Committee PSE/17 and its subcommittee PSE/17/-/6 (Processing equipment and systems for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries), the series is classified under ICS 75.200 and 83.140.30. GRP pipe, based on glass-fibre-reinforced thermosetting resin, offers corrosion resistance, light weight, thermal insulation and electrical insulation, and is widely used for corrosive-media service on offshore platforms, field gathering lines, seawater desalination, chemical plants and water treatment. However, its anisotropy and inter-laminar behaviour demand systematic design, qualification and installation control.
This batch covers four parts of the series:
| Part Standard | Theme | ICS | Main Content |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS EN ISO 14692-1:2002 | Vocabulary, symbols, applications and materials | 75.200; 83.140.30 | Terms, symbols, scope of application and material requirements |
| BS EN ISO 14692-2:2002 (with 2006 corrigendum) | Qualification and manufacture | 75.200; 83.140.30 | Product qualification testing and manufacturing quality control |
| BS EN ISO 14692-3:2002 (with 2006 corrigendum) | System design | 75.200; 83.140.30 | Piping system design, stress analysis and supports |
| BS EN ISO 14692-4:2002 (with 2008 revision) (scanned) | Fabrication, installation and operation | 75.200; 83.140.30 | Site fabrication, installation, inspection and operation and maintenance |
Part 1 specifies the terminology, symbols and material requirements for GRP piping, defines the applicable service media (such as seawater, produced water, fire water and process water) and the pressure-temperature rating system, sets out the material performance requirements for resin, fibre and fillers, and describes the pipe and fitting construction types (for example filament wound, centrifugally cast) and the standard dimension system. It is the foundation for design, qualification and manufacture in the later parts.
Part 2 specifies the product qualification test requirements for GRP pipes, fittings and joints, including short-term burst, long-term hydrostatic (creep), interlaminar shear, flexural and axial-load performance tests, together with manufacturing quality-control requirements such as process-parameter monitoring, visual inspection, dimensional inspection and defect control, ensuring products achieve the specified performance rating. A Technical Corrigendum published in 2006 corrected a number of clauses.
Part 3 specifies the design method for GRP piping systems: including determination of the design pressure, load combinations (internal pressure, external pressure, temperature, wind, seismic, etc.), stress analysis (accounting for the material’s anisotropy and low elastic modulus), calculation of support spacing, thermal expansion compensation and selection of fittings/joints, together with design safety factors and displacement limits. The 2006 corrigendum corrected Table 2 and some formulae in clause 7.11.3.
Part 4 specifies site fabrication, installation, inspection and operation-and-maintenance requirements for GRP piping: including transport and storage, cutting and adhesive/mechanical jointing procedures, site joint quality control, hydrostatic/pneumatic testing, flushing and commissioning, and in-service inspection and repair points.
